Our story
Tech Diversity Lab and the Tech Career Passport were created by the organisers of the community, Tech Leading Ladies. Founded by Michelle & Susan in 2017 as a meetup and coaching group, it's designed to break down the barriers to promotion for women in tech. Since then it has grown into a community drawing members from all over Australian and New Zealand. This group has armed members with the skills and the confidence to be outstanding technical leaders and to find and take opportunities. It provides visibility and role-models to our emerging leaders so they can see what they can be. It's created a trusted network to help members find their next opportunity. It provides coaching for those difficult questions that we often face and don’t have anywhere to turn.
At the same time, our co-founder Gretchen began the consultancy The Human Collective, which supports technical leaders in creating a culture of diversity and inclusion.
For all 3, driving change has been an uphill battle as women continue to come up against systemic bias in hiring and promotion processes within their organisations.
Early in 2022 the founders of Tech Leading Ladies and The Human Collective came together to form Emba, combining their years of experience tackling these issues and creating a way to help companies break down blockers that prevent them from building diverse engineering teams.
